First launched at the RHS Chelsea Garden Fair in 2016 the Yakisugi swing seat was designed specially for Sitting Spiritually of Lyme Regis as a more contemporary offering to compliment their existing range of high-end swings seats and benches. Together with our existing Floating Bench which they also sell these two products went on to form the ‘Simon Thomas Pirie Contemporary’ range, exclusive to Sitting Spiitually. As with much of Simon’s design work it has a strong Japanese aesthetic, so it’s name – ‘Yakisugi’ (the act or the art of scorching wood in Japanese) seemed very apt.
Made in FSC / PEFC / GiB certified natural and scorched oak, the swing seat is striking as well as beautiful, it is also environmentally sensitive using timber from sustainable sources. We use a low solvent oil / wax for the surface finish which offer protection against the British weather.
The seat is extremely comfortable partly down to the sprung high tensile hanging wire. All fixings are marine grade stainless steel. Available in 2, 3 and 4 seater versions. Also available as a ‘seat only’ option to hang from existing structures or bespoke pergolas which we also make through Sitting Spiritually.
Yakisugi is available exclusively through Sitting Spiritually.
