Simon Thomas Pirie have scooped one of the Kitchen & Bathroom industry’s top awards for their stunning ‘Bliss’ kitchen. They won it at their first attempt against much larger and more established high street kitchen brands.
Simon’s unusual design won ‘Kitchen Design of the Year (Over £25k)’ at the Designer Kitchen and Bathroom Awards at a gala dinner held at the Connaught Rooms in London’s De Vere Grand Hotel. Attended by over 400 guests, the event was hosted by George Lamb, presenter of BT TV’s Football Tonight, who presented Simon and co-director John Beaves with their iconic red ‘d’ trophy.
The judges praised the unusual palette of materials in the Bliss Kitchen which is in a new, contemporary house overlooking the salt marshes on the North Norfolk coast. The clients wanted a mixture of sleek industrial and classic opulence in their kitchen and Simon delivered this by making the island a large rectangle and mirroring this by furnishing the back wall with rectangular cabinets and shelving. The 4 metre long island is topped in stainless steel while the cupboards underneath are constructed from solid fumed oak and fronted with charcoal grey figured sycamore doors. The kickboards and cabinet fascias are clad in brushed copper marrying the industrial feel of the metal with the warmth and opulence of rich colour. It was this innovative use of copper coupled with the clever installation of lighting which the judges highlighted as being the deciding factor when selecting Simon Thomas Pirie to receive this award.
